About
Michael Joseph Best, long-time Marriott Vacations Worldwide associate passed away at the young age of 43 on October 5, 2020.
Michael was larger than life. When he walked into a room, you knew it. For those that met Mike once or knew him well, he always had a way of leaving you feeling uplifted and lighthearted. Mike’s kindness could be seen in his eyes and his jovial laugh could be felt in your heart. He was the salt of the earth and on his happiest of days could be found at the beach with his family and friends. His passion for both his family and career were first but his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers or anything Pittsburg Sports for that matter were a close second.
Mike was outgoing and had a way of drawing everyone to him. He was genuine and sincere and if he called you “ Brother “ you knew he meant it! Mike enjoyed playing golf and like many of us, we use the word play loosely. As a matter of fact, Mike knew he was golf challenged.. and had a bucket of 500 balls he stumbled onto at the Goodwill store that he proudly donated back to the courses all over Hilton Head with his famous Banana Ball tee shot.
Michael will forever live in our memory and our hearts and whenever you are watching highlights of a Steelers win, know Michael is somewhere smiling from ear to ear.
To honor the memory and legacy of Mike, an endowment has been created to fund a hospitality scholarship at The University of South Carolina Beaufort. It serves as a lasting reminder of Mike's passion for hospitality and commitment to nurturing future leaders in the industry. Recipients will have the opportunity to pursue their dreams in hospitality, ensuring the influence of Mike continues to inspire and shape the industry he was so passionate about.
